PERSONALITY AND BONDS. jimbo may be a bully, but he’s a self-described bully with a moral compass. although he rags on people for arbitrary reasons, he understands when to draw the line and what subjects are not meant to be touched. gender, religion, race, and disabilities are topics he abstains from and has, on more than one occasion, stood up for. his relationship with sexuality, however, is complicated; when his friends make jokes about his sexuality, he is quick to deflect with contempt. the projection of this prejudice is rooted in internalized shame and a deep fear of being “caught out” by those would judge him for his preferences.jj was particularly cruel as a middle-schooler, but over the years he has undergone some menace decay. although he’s still apt to tease others, engage in name-calling, and instigate fights, high-school jimbo is usually more interested in slacking off than in beating the snot out of people. that having been said, he is quick to mouth off and get physically violent with men who he thinks are disrespectful towards him, his friends, or his family. in the past, he had a brutal fight with kearney after he made a derogatory remark about carol jones’ profession.underneath the bad boy persona and all of the aggravating behaviour, jimbo is a personable idiot who loves his friends. he is not afraid of platonic intimacy with dolph, kearney, and nelson, though this has complicated his relationship with his sexuality. when comfortable in his surroundings, he is both sensitive and thoughtful. although he does not always say the right things or express himself eloquently, his heart is usually in the right place. he is easy-going and patient when it is suits him; jimbo is just as likely to sit on the lawn and watch the clouds go by as he is to crash a house party. if he likes you, he’ll do almost anything for you. if he doesn’t, he’ll tell you to shove it.he’s rough, rowdy, and careless; however, jimbo is also fiercely invested in what select few things he genuinely gives a shit about. his mother raised both him and his sister as feminists. jimbo often chastises his friends for their objectification of women; when he was younger, he used to wreck girls’ dolls under the pretence that they were demeaning. if someone uses a slur in front of him, they’re getting rocked, and he makes a point to stay away from the word bitch. although he is not involved in activism in the way that lacy-mae is, he stands up for women’s rights when the opportunity presents itself. jj is not a perfect ally ( and sometimes not even a good one ), but he’s trying to do his best. where he completely loses the plot of respect, however, is when it comes to personal relationships. he’s well known for cheating, especially on his on-again-off-again girlfriend, shauna.

the most common side of jimbo that people see is the charismatic and irresponsible moron who rolls up late to class and then proceeds to sit with his feet on the desk. good for a laugh and a fun time / consistent in his lousy behaviour / always ready to disturb the peace. sure, he’s dumb, but he’s also a reliable source of entertainment and a master of testing teachers’ patience. the majority of his classmates accept him as being a rebel who plays by his own rules, particularly since his menace decay has largely neutralized his tendency to arbitrarily bully them.despite his rampant abandonment issues and the impact this has on his relationships, he cares deeply for his mother and sister. carol and jimbo are as close as they can be, all things considered. when he was younger, the two spent a lot of time together; although this is no longer the case, the positive impact that his mother had in his formative years preserves much of their relationship. most of their conflict derives from what he perceives as her decision to prioritize gunnar and a failure to remove his abusive presence from their lives. he feels deeply betrayed by this, but he ultimately does not hold it against her.though he likes to tease lacy-mae and subject her to innumerable pranks, he is simultaneously very protective of her. she is two years his younger, fiercely independent, and too neurotically intelligent for her own good. jimbo knows that she is more than capable of looking after herself, but he often feels compelled to defend her against predatory peers, as well as their step-father. macy has expressed concern about her brother’s increasingly deviant and dangerous behaviour; jj always promises her that he’ll be fine, which is optimistic at best and a lie at worst.father figures, on the other hand, are a sensitive topic. jimbo loves his dad but is hurt by the fact that he so often “chooses” ( to jimbo’s mind ) drugs over his own children. in reality, the two are very similar; both in appearance and in the indulgence of illicit substances, jimbo is a spitting image of thomas jones. in his attempt to maintain a relationship with his father, he engages in behaviour that he normally wouldn’t. gunnar’s abusive presence in his life doesn’t help; faced with a man he abhors, jj often turns to a kinder yet equally damaging role model. intergenerational trauma rooted in colonialism and poverty demarcates their relationship and their lives, with neither one being fully cognizant of the effects.towards adults, he can be a perfect portrait of good grace and refined behaviour. for the most part, jimbo is real good with parents; he is polite and engaging, and even if he isn’t fooling anybody with his gentlemanly act, it goes a long way towards preserving his friendships. on the other hand, he’s nothing but a menace to figures of authority. jimbo neither likes nor respects teachers or police officers, both who he feels persecuted by, and goes out of his way to antagonize anybody in a position of power.

jimbo lives with his mother, sister, and step-father in one of springfield’s most affluent neighbourhoods. when he was four years old, carol jones divorced his father and was granted full custody of the children. thomas jones had struggled with addiction when the two met, but his drinking and habitual drug use spiralled over the years. prior to jimbo’s birth, carol had been a full-service sex worker, and she resumed this occupation following the divorce. two years later, the family moved into a large, upscale home. things were going well, until carol jones entered into a relationship with a man named gunnar –– a cold, uppity man who was enamoured with carol ( and her money ), but who wanted nothing to do with her children. although she was a loving mother and consistent provider, carol jones began to spend less time at home and more time with gunnar. he eventually moved in, and the two have since married. jimbo and gunnar don’t get along, with each antagonizing the other to the point of violence. because of his unstable home environment, jj tends towards staying out late and returning only when the odds of running into gunnar are low.

when asked about his behaviour. jimbo has given three major reasons to account for his descent into bullying: 1) neglect and a desire for attention, 2) to make himself feel like a “big man“, and 3) to retaliate against the treatment he endured at the hands of his peers during his formative years. jimbo was enrolled in private school as corky-james –– though teachers most commonly referred to him as james. confounded by learning disabilities from the get-go, corky began struggling with his education almost immediately. the school neither acknowledged nor respected his need for differential learning. the other students in his class began to pick on him for what they perceived as being slow-wittedness; the smart kids said he was moronic and, consequently, undeserving of the name ‘james.‘ they dubbed him jimbo, which they said was 'suitable for an idiot like him.' somewhere along the way, his real name was forgotten entirely, and now everybody calls him jimbo. embarrassed and embittered as a young child, he learned that he could silence his tormentors with violence of his own: infantilized by teachers and peers alike, he soon played into the stereotype of the dumb brute. jimbo jones became a self-fulfilling prophecy before he was seven years old.

it was at this same time that carol jones began spending less time at home. jimbo felt rejected by his classmates, his mother, and most other adults he came into contact with. his father was not a consistent presence in his life, and a court order prevented jimbo and macy from staying with him for more than a day at a time. to her credit, carol jones did remove her son from private school when she caught wind of his ill-treatment. she enrolled him in springfield elementary school, where he entered the second grade. there he met dolph starbeam and kearney zzyzwicz, and together they formed a destructive posse of outcasts. although they were initially little more than rebels and class clowns, their behaviour became gradually more problematic and violent. by the time they entered the fourth grade, they had become the resident school bullies.jimbo, dolph, and kearney began shop-lifting the year that they met; it started out as a dare, but as soon as they realized that they could get away with it –– if they were careful –– it became a habitual occurrence. the other two came from low-income families, but jimbo could easily have purchased the things they stole. thing was, when they were caught, his mother suddenly became more interested in what he was doing. drinking and smoking soon followed suite, and their theft expanded to include alcohol and cigarettes nabbed from local corner stores. jimbo had a juvenile record by the time he turned 13 years old. charged with destruction of property ( for graffitiing the school ) and theft-under, he and the other two were ordered to complete community service. this was only the beginning of what would eventually become many years of deviant behaviour.in elementary school, the trio were equally feared and admired. they relentlessly bullied the other children out of both their money and their pride, but they were still popular among the general student body. as they grew older, their truancy and drinking gradually became out of control; although they were still respected as bullies –– as forces not to be fucked with –– their reputations gained notoriety for all the wrong reasons. come high school, the bullies became widely perceived as losers –– burn-outs who, despite being relatively tolerated by fellow students, seemed doomed to go nowhere in life. the only thing that now keeps them from themselves becoming objects of ridicule is their ability to defend themselves; jimbo, in particular, is left well alone. his sheer size and strength keep most of the other kids from openly mocking him. with no future aspirations to speak of, he has effectively resigned himself to presentism and hedonism.

MAIN / DEFAULT. seventeen years old. to be used in unspecified verses. jimbo jones is a high school student with a penchant for shop-lifting, vandalising, and ridiculing. he is formally employed as a police informant––a position he agreed to when threatened with juvenile detention; however, he has never once given them anything concrete to work with and tends only toward feeding them bullshit information. frustrated with the education system and his inability to adapt to standardized learning styles, he runs the risk of being held back another year. jimbo can most often be found at the skatepark, lowkey dreaming about going pro; if he’s not there, he’s either napping in the class-room or trying to pawn the answers to last week’s quiz off of some unsuspecting victim. fuck the system.YOUNG ADULT. eighteen to twenty-four years old . jimbo attends college courses as part of an affirmative action program that allows for youth with criminal records to participate in post-secondary education despite their previous grades. he grapples with staying out of trouble while living alone; the independency afforded to him by young-adulthood has brought with it the ability to fully succumb to path his father took before him. jimbo struggles to maintain a steady job, but he currently stocks shelves at some shoddy grocery store in a strip-mall. pretty shit; easily distracted by products from the toy section. he has translated his graffiti skills into prosocial behaviour and pursues illustration as a job ( although he continues to vandalize public property while doing so, because legal graffiti is a sell-out's game. )EUPHORIA. seventeen years old. after a physical altercation with gunnar, jimbo packs a bag and leaves home; despite a custody-order that forbids the children from residing with their father in any capacity, he moves in with thomas jones, who's living at the travel inn. surrounded by rampant alcohol and drug abuse, jimbo’s own behaviour spirals until he spends the majority of his days in a quasi-haze. he still attends school, but the escalation to hard drugs makes him even more dysfunctional. he passes out in and is removed from class on more than one occasion.he has a falling out with his friends at this point, whose concern over his wellbeing causes him to react indignantly. although he’s aware of his declining mental and physical health, he really doesn’t want to hear about it from others. still fun at house parties, but lowkey most people wouldn’t be all that surprised if he OD’d in a bathroom.one night, thomas jones overdoses on fentanyl. jimbo, himself inebriated, panics and runs away; he calls an ambulance from the skatepark, cognizant enough to understand that his father would be worse off if the cops found out that he was taking drugs around a minor. with nowhere else to go, he returns to his mother, who enrols him in rehab.having few convictions to begin with, he returns from rehab without a firm desire to relapse or to stay clean. inevitably, this “it is what it is" attitude leads him back down the path of drinking, smoking, and truancy. 10/10 would start a fight with nate jacobs out of principle alone 🤧 CONTINUED PT. 1 .

STRANGER THINGS. seventeen (s. 1), eighteen (s. 2), nineteen (s. 3). high school student with a low GPA and even lower motivation. has never heard of the adage “pick on somebody your own size.“ too busy listening to 80s rock to get his life together. works at the arcade, where he frequently slacks off and swipes money from kids who aren’t keeping an eye on their pockets. probably fucking dies by season three tbh because he simply would not notice if anybody around him became one of the flayed / started acting hella strange.IT. thirteen years old ( book canon ) / seventeen years old ( movie canon ). student at derry middle school / high school ( canon dependent ). the frequent disappearances of children does little to dissuade him and his friends from staying out past curfew in order to steal from store-owners and peers alike. jimbo is forced to attend summer school in order to make up for subpar grades. when lacy-mae goes missing, his behaviour spirals.HORROR / SLASHER TROPE. promiscuous teenagers and stoners always find themselves at the pointy end of the machete. whether he's a camp counsellor or the kid who thinks having a bush party while a serial killer's at large is a good idea, jimbo definitely doesn't make it to the end of the movie. CAMP COUNSELLOR SPECIFIC: jimbo receives a community service sentence that sees him become a negligent, wanton, and perpetually-high counsellor at a summer camp.GIRL BAND BUS DRIVER. 💀 atomic chic group verse. after his best friend, rosie, finds herself in a girl band that's taking the world by storm, jimbo does what every good friend would do — tucks his suspended driver's license into his pocket and takes on the role of the chaotic but endearing bus driver. a veteran of the partying lifestyle, he spends his nights capitalizing on the hype that comes with rockstar culture and then shows up ( more or less ) on time in the mornings.
